My goodness what a rollercoaster of a match! OCFC managed to take a 3-2 lead by half, than wins it late 4-3. The stakes were high for both teams in this match-up. The win boosted Orange County FC up to second place, one point shy of ASC San Diego. Riverside lost their fourth match in a row and have one more road trip to Temecula FC, before they get to come home on May 12th against Oxnard Guerrerros FC.
Let’s focus on the positives first. Riverside broke their scoring drought and put in three against the best defense in the conference. The Coras also battled back from a 3-1 deficit, showing heart and a will to win. Riverside’s defense was aggressive, focused on closing down attackers and defending as a team. The press from Riverside worked well and forced a few turnovers from OCFC in dangerous spots. If Riverside continues to create chances at this abundance, we could be in for more high scoring thrillers like this one.
At the end of the night, the 10-man OCFC stuck it out and took advantage of Riverside slipping at the very end. In the 87th minute Alessandro Canale places the ball in the left corner off a Dakota Collins assist. Riverside continued to battle, but it would be another loss Riverside Coras FC.
We are now approaching half-time in the NPSL season and Riverside is still sitting on one point. Don’t worry all isn’t lost yet, instead let’s take the time to focus on what needs to be done: train hard, win at home and continue to build on this momentum. Riverside Coras FC have now played every club, but Oxnard Guerrerros ( match was postponed in week 2), and only have seven games remaining in the season.
Next week rivals Temecula FC will host Riverside Coras FC at Chapparal Stadium, continue to check our social media for updates. Until then get out and #SupportLocalSoccer.
